Fort Kochi, Cochin ~ like China

The first European township in India continues to fascinate me on my trips to God's own country KERALA. I am drawn to the boat rides, to the smell of the sea, to the lives around the harbor.

Snoopy the sugar glider

This flying squirrel is a marsupial. A new born crawls into the mothers marsupium and stays until the mother weans off her offspring. An adult flying squirrel is able to glide between trees with the help of patagium, a furry parachute-like membrane that stretches from wrist to ankle. It has a fluffy tail that stabilizes in flight. The tail acts as an air rudder, working as an air brake before landing on a tree.

@ the Matramandir (Mother's Temple)

"Man is a transitional being. He is not final. The step from man to superman is the next approaching achievement in the earth evolution. It is inevitable because it is at once the intention of the inner spirit and the logic of nature's process" - Sri Aurobindo

The soul of Auroville . .  the Matramandir  @ Pondicherry

Model of the dome

The Matrimandir took 37 years to build, from the laying of the foundation stone at sunrise on 21 February 1971 - the Mother’s 93rd birthday - to completion in May 2008. It is in the form of a huge sphere surrounded by twelve pedestals. The central dome is covered by golden discs and reflects sunlight, which gives the structure its characteristic radiance. Inside this central dome is a meditation hall known as the inner chamber - this contains the largest optically-perfect glass globe in the world.

Curious Visitors

In the mid-1960s The Mother personally guided the founding of Auroville, an international township endorsed by UNESCO to further human unity near the town of Pondicherry, which was to be a place "where men and women of all countries are able to live in peace and progressive harmony above all creeds, all politics and all nationalities." It was inaugurated in 1968 in a ceremony in which representatives of 121 nations and all the states of India placed a handful of their soil in an urn near the center of the city. Auroville continues to develop and currently has approximately 2100 members from 43 countries, though the majority consists of Indians, French, and Germans.

Muzhapilangad - the drive in beach

The only beach where you are allowed to drive in style. The Muzhapilangad beach is considered the only drive in beach in this part of the world! On a weekday when there are not many tourists at this place, one can drive on this freeway for about 4kms... remember to keep you windows down and soak in the sea breeze.
